[rti4empowerment] Prime Minister - "All village panchayats to have broadband by 2012" - Name & Designation of Officer at Centre & Names & Designations of Officers at States responsible to execute the time bound project...

Prime Minister,
GOI, New Delhi

Dear Sir,

This has reference to the media news:
"All village panchayats to have broadband by 2012".

This is an excellent project to provide reach, that has been mostly lacking in the last mile connectivity, and must be implemented with all the seriousness unlike political promises made in the past remaining unfulfilled / partially fulfilled.

In this regard, it is requested to make public the Name & Designation of the Officer at Centre & Names & Designations of the Officers at States responsible to execute the time bound project with their monthly targets spelled out & monitored.

In the era of strong need for accountability of public administration towards the citizens, this aspect of making someone responsible is highly crucial as, in the absence of it, it becomes no body's baby as has been happening.

Hope, unlike urban area getting huge resource allocation as compared to villages, this project for villages will also get required input in terms of PCs / Laptops at Panchayat Offices; Trainers and maintenance personnel for trouble-free running of Broadband and its effective / useful utilisation.

Awaiting necessary feedback in the matter.

Regards,

All village panchayats to have broadband by 2012

The network will be provided by the government and it will be the responsibility of village panchayats to run, maintain and properly utilise it

New Delhi: All 250,000 village panchayats in the country will be connected with broadband by mid-2012 under a US $4 billion project to take the benefits of technology to the poor, tech evangelist Sam Pitroda said on Friday.

"I can assure you that in 18 months every village panchayat will have broadband. It will significantly change the way we deal with people in villages," Pitroda, who also serves as the Prime Minister's Advisor on Innovation, told a diaspora convention here, reports IANS.

The network will be provided by the federal government and it will be the responsibility of village panchayats to run, maintain and properly utilise it, he said. "Each panchayat will employ two people. They will be paid by the panchayats."

Some 100,000 village panchayats already have broadband connectivity in India that not only ensures faster communications but also allows applications like tele-medicine, timely weather forecasts and remote consultations on crops, soil, nutrients and marketing.
