[HumJanenge] CONCERN OF CHIEF JUSTICE ABOUT CORRUPTION IN JUDICIARY

CONCERN OF CHIEF JUSTICE ABOUT   CORRUPTION  IN JUDICIARY

Dear Sir,

Chief Justice of Madras High Court has revealed that 900 judicial officers in Tamil Nadu face charges. (media report dated 12.10.2012) . He has further warned that corruption amongst judges will not be tolerated. Of course, beyond this he has not  said anything nor appear to have done anything to prevent corruption.

It is sad to see these days that the  judges often share  public platforms with politicians and bureaucrats and  even business men  and  visit their houses for private functions  or  for extending invitations.  Many of such politicians and bureaucrats  and business men face charges of corruption and abuse of power in the courts at one time or the other.  Photographs appeared in news papers of Chief Justice of Madras High court himself visiting the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister  who is facing cases  in court ,  to extend some invitation.

In the earlier days,  judges used to avoid participating in any public or private functions and even  some times were very selective in attending even family functions  and thus they  enjoyed much more public confidence then than now.

The country cannot afford to have a weakened judiciary by judges conducting themselves  without self regulations in their conduct.

It is time that a strong public campaign should be launched to subject the judges at all levels in the country to a strict code of conduct.
