So long as Dawood Ibrahim has his sway over the Politicians and the Ministers oblige him be it UPA or NDA- by allowing his investments in East West Airlines, the first private airline allowed, and later Jet Airways totally funded by him and keeping a stooge under sword as Chairman- as Arun SHourie had detailed in the Parliament, and Dawood's sleeping cells and underworld esp. in Mumbai are allowed to have their way through NCP and Congress, the kidnapping of Builders and Film producers and extortions of millions from them as well as the second line operations of Match fixing would continue and no Govt. would be able to stop these and even if they catch the bookies, they would be let off scot free for want of evidence soon.

 

It is Dawood Ibrahim who decides on important policy matters with his proximity to several senior Ministers, who abetted in the escape of his family as well as Memeons soon after 1993 Bombay Bomb Blasts.

 

The Delhi Police exercise is a setback for a few players and the big fish would not be caught, lest their own lives will be in danger.

There is a need for someone to wade into the mess on the spot fixing. Not to defend spot fixing, but the power to tap phones without warrant was for purposes of terror investigation.

The cops should have got a warrant once they realized it was not a terrorist attack being planned.

What has essentially happened is that a crime they came across while invading people's privacy - incidentally one in a private organization, not public - led to entrapment and arrest of players.

Letting this go without comment is dangerous, because this essentially means that policiticans can give a list of dissenting voices to "monitor for terrorism or anti-state activities" etc and cops can simply arrest them based on whatever they find - all without warrant. A devastation of civil right to privacy.

No clue how to mess this scene, but something needs done to throw a spanner in this creation of a state where anyone can be monitored without their consent or legal warrant. It can be a HUGE political tool to crush dissent in a country with a rich history of misuse of state machinery to attack dissent or rivals. A huge step back for rights.
