Re: [IAC#RG] Job of Soldiers the World Over.

I read a few books written by Ol' soldiers. In those days it was so simple to meet MG. These soldiers who were veterans of WW II approached MG and sought advise from him to leave their prestigious highly paid jobs(as you put it) and join him in his struggle. Bapu smiled and told them"no do not leave your profession(he did not say job) for, Independent India will require you" Mind you very few ICS approached Bapu with a similar request.
An apostle of peace he must have either read or have been told of KAUTILAYA'S advise to his Emperor. The bottom line is being a very shrewd person he realized that this "necessry evil" will have to be sustained in Independent India. Like it or not.
There is definelty a negative feeling in a section of our society about the burden of such a hugh "armed forces". After all we are unproductive and contribute nothing to the GDP(as Montek will keep harping on). There is an angst for the perks which we are given.
These have continued since the British days. An Englishman is basically a trader by DNA and would not have forgone any revenue but for the circumstances under which he utilised the Indian soldier be it Iraq, Mesepotamia, Egypt, Europe, Burma, etc etc. It was a small price - the canteen perks to give to a poor sepoy.
After Independence as far as the sepoy was concerned nothing changed- if at all Nehru was fairly caustic  he would rather have a police force instead of the armed forces. We were involved in Goa, Hydrebad, Kashmir Valley,China, Nagaland Manipur, Anand Margis in WB, Telengana, riots, flood relief, natural disasters etc.
Further Clausewitz said war is an extention of foriegn policy.(do not forget that asymmetric war is continuously going on) If our MEA did its job properly we would have a very positive foreign policy balance sheet- of the 7 neighbors we have we do not have good relations with at 90% of them. Apparently the MEA is not answerable to any one even GOD. Their performance necessitates such a large standing Armed Forces. (a non performing asset as an economist would put it)
Bad administration has resulted in the need to deploy own soldiers against own people. The bad administrator is never questioned or sacked or his perks questioned. However the perk given to the Jawan invites the wrath of activists.
Even if a consumer does not purchase Chinese goods he proves to be loyal to India. That is my definition of loyalty. I as a soldier have never felt that one out of uniform is not loyal to his country if he in his own way puts Bharat Mata above him in any way.
For those who feel agrieved that this perk is extended to this person, please tell them to take a macro view which will dilute the grudge they have of "loss of revenue".

We suggest that you do not waste your & our time passing on your opinion about what concerns armed forces & para military forces. You better concentrate on what concerns the country at the national level. How about you concentrate on various scams during the UPA regime? Just to refresh your memory ie G-2,Coal Gate,Adarsh,Common Wealth & of course Rail Gate.Billions &  billions of  Rupees and dollers is being pocketed by corrupt governments/parties & kept in Swiss accounts. Please do not forward your opinion to us in future. You have other options available to yourself.Bill

Dear All, Furher to Allahabad HC just dismissed PIL, with due respect

under : (1) Soldiers - the world over - are job needy individuals like
all other citizens needing employment for the livelihood. Given an
alternative financially lucrative job, many soldiers may leave present
job. (2) No son of MPs / MLAs / Ministers / HC or SC Judges /
Bureaucrats / Corporates / Journalists / Actors / Rich Persons becomes
a soldier. (3) Job of soldier is glorified & projected by vested
interest as Patriotic to make it a noble profession. (4) Non-soldier
job to contribute to the Nation is considererd non-patriotic job. (5)
Political Bosses do not go and fight but use the soldiers as Bakra to
satisfy their own ego by creating Wars to divert attention of Nation
and to help Corporates making War Machines. (6) I would love to have
dispassionate and objective discussion in the subject matter with
malice towards none. (7) Personal accusations may kindly be avoided
since not in good taste and not desirable also. Regards,
