Re: [IAC#RG] PAIN OF LISTENING TO ENGLISH NEWS T V MEDIA ANCHORS

For the last few weeks I am going through all the views of you all. It's heartening to read good opinion about DD. As pointed out by all about the loudness and immature presentation of news on pvt channels I would like to mention one thing that our media especially the electronic one is still in a very primary stage and in this age of trps and breaking news nobody is bothered about the quality, news value or the authenticity of the contents just chep do wala attitude hai. But on DD or AIR you will never find these kind of stuff. So gentlemen thanks for appreciating the efforts of govt channel.

I am in total agreement with above except that boycotting these channels or such debates will not serve any purpose. The only plus side can be to know the caliber and mentality of various panelists, some of those have major role in decision making at the highest level and decide the destiny of the country ,some of them like Mr. Parathasarthi, TSR Subramanian, Ajit Doval and some of our senior officers have the experience and insight of the Govt's working and international affairs. They do add some value to these programs despite untimely intervention by the anchor or other unruly panelists.
The DD programs be it the News, Panel Discussions, talk shows and the cultural programs have rich contents and add some value. One of the important aspects is DD's excellent coverage of the Regional cultures-folk music, folk dance and the ancient sculptures. The sad part is the bias most of us carry against DD, its some thing to do with a clear preference to whatever said or done by the "White Skin".
Internal circulation of these mails have no impact over the anchors or those who prepare these program, but if these opinions find some way of reaching the general public and the TV anchors, it might have some effect on the concerned people..They will certainly read through and take some corrective action. They will not simply ignore the views of a General Officer.

Fully agree with you, General, we must boycott these noisy and mindless anchors and the channels that engage them.

Doordarshan is the best today in India. They have quietly improved and appear so dignified in comparison. Yes, the LokSabha and the Rajya Sabha channels are really good.

Other than what has been suggested by Ramu there seems very little hope that the anchors will improve- sadly the ill manners, the interruptions and babel is increasing and spreading to other channels -  We can of course visit the story of David & Goliath and seek out where the anchor's  weak spot is. I think it lies in TRPs. If that falls for a channel, the anchors may have to do some self enquiry. Also we are not a captive audience and need not watch these channels. We can switch from them to Door Darshan and local regional & international channels. Not being a Doordarshan fan earlier- I am pleasantly surprised by their news coverage and in particular, impressed by their Lok Sabha Channel and a morning programme ~Aj Savere. So why not let the noisy anchors carry on and we  seek information and mature discussions elsewhere. This of course should not stop us from complaining to our Broadcasting Corporation as Ramu has already suggested.

Dear Mr dutta,
We are in a situation whether we take it or leave it. Individually we feel helpless as we have become so much used to the print and video/audio news . unfortunately there is no strong civil society institutions to take on the media for the rubbish they dish out. You see a boy being maulted by a tiger and no one questions what the the photographer doing merrily clicking rather than raise a hue and cry. You have instances of two famous anchors being a part of infamous radia tapes. After an initial hue and cry they were quite rehabilitated. Media can give you full details on financials of any corporate entity. But do you find similar details for any newspaper or TV chanel?
Have fun and enjoy the show. Between media and govt. The policy is you scratch my back and I scratch yours.

However, they seem to think that they can talk on any subject whether it is economics, politics, science and technology, crime investigation, culture, foreign policy, sports, and what not.
