I have been working in the area of consumer rights and have learnt to my horror that the amendments to the original CPA has resulted in the consumer fora/commissions becoming worse than regular courts where, as Arundhati Roy had rightly said, the process is part of the punishment and it affects both the complainant and the respondent(s)!
I have had to go to Delhi all the way from kerala for attending a hearing to decide whether the appeal should be taken on file or not!
To put it succintly, the consumer protection act is no more for consumer protection and it will be better to rename it as consumer persecution act!
